Amaya Laucirica – ‘Rituals’

Having listened to it over and over since it’s release early this month, I struggle to hide my disappointment. That’s not to suggest that it’s a poor album, but rather that it compares poorly with her previous three albums.
Most of the songs on this album are pleasant hummable tunes that differ little from each other in structure, instruments, and vocals. At times it feels as if the short melody lines are repeated to fill out the allotted time.
The stand out tracks are ‘All of our times’ and’More than this’, both released as singles in 2017, which show glimpses of standout originality, and the bonus track ‘Still so young’ which probably has the most memorable melody and most distinctive sound.
A great shame that the world will not be introduced to Amaya through the rich and varied sound of her earlier albums, especially ‘Sway’ (2014) and ‘Early Summer’ (2010j
