New Jazz Music – Noted, Not Reviewed
Melody Gardot – Live in Europe – The tracks on this album capture Melody’s unmistakable voice and sense of humour and showcase her straddling of several genres that loosely fall under the umbrella of Jazz. Unlike many live rec ordings, this album captures the atmosphere of the concerts from which this album was compiled. (The selection of this album was not influenced by the album cover.)
James Morrison – Midnight till Dawn – James has long been one of Australia’s most outstanding jazz musicians. No one plays jazz trumpet quite like James. As this recording attests, it would also seem that few play jazz piano and a range of brass instruments as well as James. On this album’s selection of songs, the other three members of the band also shine. It’s interesting to see genetics at work, in that two members of the band are much younger Morrisons, sons of James.
